Manage and support the overall implementation of packaging change identifying impact issues for all new packaging developments, artwork changes and new product launches to meet UK, IRE & European Branding.
RINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITES
Operational Requirements
• Ensure that packs and packaging materials are accurate and specified in accordance with the requirements of a high-level business performance, GMP (European Guide to Good Manufacturing Practice) and Global Change Control Guidelines. This includes the checking and approving of amendments to existing or new packaging.
• To take a pro-active role with Regulatory, Supply Chain Planners, Quality Assurance and Inter-Company and Third Party Manufacturing to ensure changes occur within Regulatory and Legal constraints and timelines.
• Liaison with marketing, production, warehouse, distribution and storage to ensure all technical packaging requirements are fulfilled, including templates, barcodes, colour and manufacturing requirements. Providing information regarding printed packaging materials to internal departments and appropriate outside agencies.
• Support UK, IRE & European Supply Teams in identifying and developing suitable vendors who are capable of supplying products of consistent acceptable quality standards at realistic prices and providing high service levels. Jointly maintain standard costs and other performance related criteria for Inter-Company, Third Party Manufacturing and Contract Work.
• Manage Packaging & Artwork Projects as deemed necessary to support Consumer Healthcare brands
Technical Accountability
• To advise technical and business constraints of printed packaging components for new and existing company products from design stage through to actual production.
• Actively participate in internal and external packaging change meetings. Pro-actively preparing and communicating project status to support implementation timings.
• Create artwork brief’s and effectively manage required steps with the Artwork Design Agency relating to technical requirements and timing constraints.
• To consistently review and update existing packs and packaging components, ensuring that consideration is given to all relevant factors including
o Marketing requirements for presentation of product and company image.
o Regulatory requirements for information accuracy and implementation deadlines.
o Technical requirements for Production, Warehouse, Distribution and Storage.
o Legal, commercial and environmental constraints.
• Manage and co-ordinate new project development with marketing, regulatory and design agencies to support UK, IRE & European affiliates ensuring effective project timings and plans are in place to meet the necessary business constraints.
• Check artwork as per the guidelines set out under the Artwork Check List including design and layout, colour, over printing, etc and ensure the process of artwork change takes place within GMP guidelines and is documented accordingly. Authorisation of final proofs prior to ordering / printing componentry.
• Ensure that codes and information in associated company systems are correctly generated and issued in a timely manner. The codes and information to be generated and issued using Oracle, PC and manual register system to include
o Pallet stacking patterns
o Packaging component numbers
o Product pack codes
o Database of finished stock information
o EAN, TU and pallet codes
o Packaging waste data
• Initiate and track project using Pfizer change control procedures eg Artwork Change Form (ACF).
• Maintain knowledge of all bar coding requirements and it’s implications. Maintain valid database information for Oracle related activities and ensure compliance with all requirements for finished pack coding.
• To provide technical assistance to other company departments, contract packaging companies, companies whose products we market, including acting as team member for project teams looking at packaging relating activities e.g. attending print runs of new product components. Generation of sub-contract instructions.
• To indirectly support the Artwork Technologist with any technical requirements and information e.g. electronic data and drawings to ensure project timings are achieved taking into consideration artwork constraints.
• To prepare and submit accurate costings for new and changed products to be produced or packed at third party.
• Develop and implement strategic procedures with new suppliers to comply with GMP.
Qualifications required
HND Level in business studies or equivalent.
Degree level in a science related subject.
Qualification in the Institute of Packaging.
Experience
In similar position in the Pharma or Allied industry +
Purchasing related and Logistics knowledge also required.
