KEY CRITERIA OF THIS ROLE
To manage all the site packaging development processes and requirements -

• To ensure that all product launch packaging requirements are delivered to a deadline via the project CPA.
• To manage the sourcing and specification of all new packaging componentry.
• To manage the artwork & origination process
• Provision of suitable specifications for components & finished goods.
• To ensure record keeping systems are in place to demonstrate departmental processes & procedures are followed.
• To ensure that all Health and Safety and Employee Development / Welfare duties to the employees are satisfied and adhered to at all times.
• To ensure the training & development requirements of direct reports are satisfied.

KEY TASKS (The main activities/actions needed to carry out the job)

• Implement Health and Safety Legislation to European standards where they affect maintenance procedures. To liaise with the Safety and Security Manager and other interested parties on all issues involving safety, to ensure that safe working conditions and practices are adhered to at all times. To ensure that all Health and Safety requirements for staff are satisfied to enable them to carry out their duties and responsibilities.

• Manage the development and welfare requirements of direct reports, such as induction, training, counselling etc., In addition, to manage the employee, ensuring that their personal development and welfare is reviewed, evaluated and updated in a fair and reasonable manner.

• Ensure all legislation pertaining to packaging is implemented to agreed standards.

• Manage and control the design and development of new bottles, to be produced by the on-site Blow Moulding Department, through to successful 1st production.

• Manage and control the sourcing / design / development of all new or changed componentry introduced to the business, through to successful 1st production.

• Manage the artwork & origination process

• Identify and deliver value engineering projects across the site to offer the business Material Cost Improvements, Labour Savings & Improved Efficiency.

• Manage the componentry and finished goods specification systems ensuring timely information is provided to all departments as required.

• Manage appropriate line trials, through to successful first production.


• To monitor new and improved technology and techniques in the packaging and artwork fields, to ensure that the company remains at the forefront of the Personal Care area.

• Provide support to site departments to ensure that adequate solutions are identified for all issues relating to packaging componentry. Communicate / attend to technical queries raised by customers / in- house personnel.

• To maintain procedures, work instructions, operative levels of equipment, ordering replacements and ensuring that all are maintained to an appropriate standard. To ensure record keeping systems are in place to demonstrate departmental processes & procedures are followed.

• To provide packaging information on request by the customer via liaison with suppliers, buyers, production and the Sales & Marketing Department.

• To produce a monthly report outlining relevant issues / progress against targets and initiatives in the department

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND WORK SKILLS NEEDED
• Degree calibre
• IOP Diploma in Packaging Technology

• Sound knowledge & understanding of the technical aspects of a broad range of packaging components, machinery and manufacturing techniques.
• Understanding of relevant packaging legislation & industry standards.
• Understanding of the interaction of influence of packaging on production efficiencies and abilities.
• Proven project management skills, able to manage several complicated tasks simultaneously
• Able to successfully communicate and present both written & verbally, information to technical and non-technical individuals, internal and external.
• General commercial awareness.
• Competent MS Office user / experience of SAP.
• Proven track record within a fast moving consumer goods manufacturing environment in a packaging development.
• Ability to manage & lead a team, to achieve agreed targets and goals.
• Ability to coach & mentor team members.
