An opportunity for an experienced Packagaing Development Technologist with a previous/current successful background in Colour Cosmetics packaging development technology.
Reporting to the Head of Packaging Development, working on global brands.

To be responsible for the technical development and project management of packaging components for new products in line with the concept and product briefs agreed with Global Product. • Responsible for the management, motivation and development of relevant Packaging Development Technologist(s).

PRIMARY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES • Contributing all technical packaging aspects into new product concept development sessions, guiding Global Product and Design away from technically unachievable, unethical or very costly proposals and suggesting alternatives that are acceptable from all points of view. • Developing excellent working relationships and regularly liaising with Design, Marketing, QA and Values colleagues to progress the feasibility of packaging components aesthetically, functionally and commercially. • Ensuring the selected components are developed such that they satisfy both the functional and aesthetic aspects of the brief in a cost effective, technically competent, values-led and timely manner.
Liaising with the chosen Contract Fillers and Full Service suppliers ensuring that the components being developed allow for efficient handling on the selected production line(s). • Attending component colour match and print approvals and finished goods line trials and production start up as required.
Alerting the Testing Laboratory and providing any components that will need necessary testing in order to gain maximum confidence in the packaging and product combinations prior to full production of the end product. To highlight to the Project Team where CPA timing does not allow this and to provide the technical part of any risk assessment.
Keeping abreast of appropriate new process and material developments in the packaging world, ensuring that the business benefits to the maximum extent possible.

To “trouble shoot” and offer solutions and corrective actions to any packaging related problems.
To manage, motivate and develop a Packaging Technologist, taking care of all day-to-day personnel issues, whilst referring major problems to the Head of Packaging Development.

SKILLS REQUIRED• Educated to min‘A’ level standard with further higher level specific packaging related qualifications an advantage • Strong previous experience at a Development Technologist level, with experience of the technical processes and materials issues involved in the production of relevant packaging components and finished goods. • An extensive knowledge of the potential suppliers of components to the toiletry and cosmetics industry, including their background, strengths and weaknesses. • A proven creative and proactive approach to problem solving to reconcile the aesthetic and functional desires of Global Product and Design with the inherent technical, cost and timing constraints. • A detailed knowledge of the appropriate packaging testing regimes required for successful component and product development.
