Experience Required
Ideally minimum 3 years in packaging innovations gained in the food, beverage, fmcg markets
Degree in Packaging, Materials Science or Engineering or relevant discipline
Ability to interact with all levels of the organisation and influence decision making. Quality and detail oriented with innovative, proactive, and creative skills.
Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to interact within multi-functional teams.
Strong interpersonal skills and the presence to represent the company externally & within the business.
Experience developing numerous different packaging types, their processes throughout the supply chain and associated capabilities and constraints.
Awareness of alternative packaging types used in other sectors, ability to consider their potential for NPD opportunities.
Experience working with external packaging supply companies, designers, inventors, consultants, educational and research establishments, and packaging machinery companies along with their capabilities and constraints.
Ability to understand engineering drawings and packaging specifications.
Experience with using MS Office software. (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
Experience with using Adobe Illustrator.
Knowledge of GMP requirements and other relevant existing guidelines (i.e. FDA). Ability to handle complex multiple projects within the environment of fast moving consumer goods industry.
Travel flexibility both domestically and internationally including UK car driving license.
Excellent team player within a multi-cultural business environment
Demonstrated project management skills.


Details JOB FUNCTIONS / PRINCIPLE DUTIES


The role sits within marketing & is responsible not all for innovation across all the brands but also the implementation and maintenance. It supports the brands directly & the role covers all aspects of brand packaging, innovation, implementation, cost saving, environmental issues etc.

Participates in all packaging innovation & development activities for brand Innovation teams.
Must be able to drive packaging innovation bringing considered ideas to Marketing and then working with them to generate pipeline opportunities.
Able to work on a project from very early and conceptual stages.
Able to visualise and think broadly at the early stage of development and convey these thoughts to the business.
Able to constantly invent and evolve new ways of generating NPD opportunities both independently and with other departments such as Marketing and R&D.
Able to evaluate financial dimensions to NPD at an early stage and consider mid term cost mitigation opportunities.
Able to evaluate competing opportunities for marketplace potential and financial payback.
Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Able to work on differing timescales for NPD including developing a long term packaging vision for each brand in conjunction with Marketing and other brand team contributors.
Able to interact effectively with different cultures in different time-zones on Lead Market projects.
Must have proficient knowledge of packaging component suppliers.
Must have proficient knowledge of packaging materials for use & compatibility.
Must have proficient knowledge of processing of different packaging components.
Must be able to be proactive as well as reactive to changing environments.
Must be flexible with work situations and working locations (global attitude & vision).
Must be strong in the area of project management (i.e. dealing with material suppliers, packaging suppliers, etc ) including ownership of projects.
Keeps abreast of new materials, applications and packaging innovations in all sectors of the packaging industry, with local and global perspectives.
Able to evaluate new channel possibilities for sales of nutritional products.
Contributes to the development and conceptualization of novel packaging designs with outside contract design resources.
Able to coordinates Packaging Development activities of Implementation Projects with suppliers, contractors, Purchasing, Marketing, Engineering, Quality, R & D, Planning and Sales.
Able to pass on projects to colleagues with no loss of information or momentum.
General understanding of packaging equipment and its capabilities.
Coordinates packaging testing and material evaluation with suppliers and special test facilities.
